OVERVIEW & EXPERIENCE
Lauren A. Sabo is the founder and principal attorney of Sabo Law LLP, based in Columbus, Ohio, where she specializes in special education law and student advocacy. Drawing on her firsthand experience as a former multi-intensive special education teacher, Ms. Sabo is deeply committed to empowering students and families to navigate the complexities of education law, including special education representation, Title IX matters, suspension and expulsion cases, residency disputes, athletics, disability rights, higher education issues, and juvenile law.
A graduate of Denison University with a B.A. in sociology and anthropology, Ms. Sabo began her career with Teach for America, serving as a high school multi-intensive special education teacher in Denver, Colorado. While working with students with unique needs, she earned master’s degrees in urban education and curriculum and design, and biological sciences. Her experience in the classroom inspired her to pursue a legal career to address the systemic challenges her students faced.
Ms. Sabo earned her J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and a dual master’s degree in public policy and administration from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. During her legal studies, she gained invaluable experience as a CASA Guardian ad Litem, Grassbaugh Veterans Project Fellow, and legal intern with the U.S. Department of Education and the Justice for Children Clinic. Upon graduation, she was selected for the Greif Fellowship at Moritz College of Law, where she provided legal representation and wrap-around services to juvenile victims of human trafficking across Ohio.
In 2024, Ms. Sabo proudly co-authored the second edition of Special Education Law in a Nutshell, showcasing her valuable expertise and significant contributions to the field of special education law. She is an active member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Columbus Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Women Lawyers of Franklin County, and the Central Ohio Association for Juvenile Lawyers. Her work is grounded in a collaborative approach, advocating for students’ rights and ensuring they receive the resources and support necessary to succeed in education and beyond. She currently teaches a Special Education Advocacy course at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where she shares her expertise and passion for empowering families and future advocates.
